The Salvation Army in Chicago celebrated the first National Donut Day in 1938 to help those in need during the Great Depression and to commemorate the work of the “Donut Lassies” who served donuts to soldiers during World War I.

Eighty years later, The Salvation Army is STILL working to make life sweeter in our communities -- and celebrating Donut Day on the first Friday each June. Here in Grand Rapids, we need 50 volunteers to help us hand out smiles/donuts. Join us for the morning, the afternoon, or both!
